The chicken was probably domesticated for its eggs from jungle fowl native to tropical and subtropical Southeast Asia and India before 7500 BCE. The most commonly used bird eggs are those from the chicken. Duck and goose eggs, and smaller eggs, such as quail eggs, are occasionally used as a gourmet ingredient in western countries. Some of the most common preparation methods include scrambled, fried, hard-boiled, soft-boiled, omelettes and pickled. Ground egg shells are sometimes used as a food additive to deliver calcium.

On this type of mill only the cap is rotated rather than the whole body of the mill. The cap can be turned into the wind either by winches or gearing inside the cap or from a winch on the tail pole outside the mill. A method of keeping the cap and sails into the wind automatically is by using a fantail, a small windmill mounted at right angles to the sails, at the rear of the windmill.
