The modern necktie can be traced back to the time of the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) . In that period the mercenaries from the Croatian Military Frontier in French service where wearing their traditional small, knotted neckerchiefs and influenced Parisian fashion. The standard length is 140 cm, though other lengths are available and vary from 117 cm to 152 cm.
