Hops

If you didn't know, hops are the flowers of the hop plant. They are used primarily as a bittering, flavoring, and stability agent in beer and as ingredients in various other beverages and herbal medicines. Hops are harvested at the end of summer. After they are harvested they are dried and then they are used in the brewing process.

Metropolitan Subway Train

In today's new puzzle we're in Seoul, Korea waiting for a train. The Seoul Metropolitan Subway system consist of 22 rapid transit, light metro, commuter rail and people mover lines. The network consists of numbered lines 1 through 9, which serve Seoul City proper and its surroundings and other specifically named regional railways that serve the greater metropolitan region and beyond. The first line of the Seoul Subway network started construction in 1971. Typically, train cars (like the ones in this puzzle) have four doors on each side. In between the doors are rows seats for 7 people, except for the outer ends of each wagon where there are smaller rows of seats for 3 people, marked for the use by the elderly, disabled passengers, and pregnant women. All trains are 19.6 meters in length, 3.12 meters in width, and 3.8 meters in height.

They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and usually have some sort of mechanism that allows them to connect with other pieces. Pieces are usually made out of plastic, but wood or metal may also be used.

Cutting Firewood

For most of human history, firewood was the main source of fuel for heating, cooking and other activities. Firewood is a renewable resource. It is stored piles, free-standing stacks or in other specialized structures. Storing wood in this way helps keep moisture away from it and allows it to dry faster. Dry wood delivers more energy for heating than green wood of the same species.

Ginkgo Leaves

Ginkgo biloba, commonly known as ginkgo or gingko, are large trees, normally reaching a height of 20-35 m, with some specimens in China being over 50 m. The tree is widely cultivated, and was cultivated early in human history. It has various uses in traditional medicine and as a source of food. Although Ginkgo biloba and other species of the genus were once widespread throughout the world, its range shrank and by two million years ago, it was restricted to a small area of China. For centuries, it was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province in eastern China, in the Tianmushan Reserve.

Brightly Colored Feathers

If you didn't know, feathers aid birds with flight, thermal insulation, and waterproofing. Their colors and patterns help in communication and protection. The colors of feathers are produced by pigments, by microscopic structures that can refract, reflect, or scatter selected wavelengths of light, or by a combination of both. There are two basic types of feather: vaned feathers which cover the exterior of the body, and down feathers which are underneath the vaned feathers. A bird's feathers undergo wear and tear and are replaced periodically during the bird's life through molting.

If you didn't know, seashells are hard, protective outer layers usually created by an animal that lives in the sea. Most shells that are found on beaches are the shells of marine mollusks. Shells come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors.
