Model Train Puzzle Details:

About: If you didn't know, model railroading is a hobby in which trains and rail systems are modeled at a reduced scale. The models include a variety of objects like: locomotives, rolling stock, streetcars, tracks, signalling, roads, bridges, buildings, vehicles and more. Modelers collect model trains, and build a landscape for the trains to pass through. Layouts vary from a circle or oval of track to realistic reproductions of real places modeled to scale.

Colorful World Globe Closeup

Colorful World Globe Closeup

Globes serve similar purposes to maps, but unlike maps, do not distort the surface that they portray except to scale it down. Flat maps are created using a map projection that inevitably introduces an increasing amount of distortion the larger the area that the map shows. The sphericity of the Earth was established by Greek astronomy in the 3rd century BC, and the earliest terrestrial globe appeared from that period. Traditionally, globes were manufactured by gluing a printed paper map onto a sphere, often made from wood. Usually a globe is mounted so that its spin axis is 23.5° from vertical, which is the angle the Earth's spin axis deviates from perpendicular to the plane of its orbit. In today's new puzzle we can see part of such a globe - we can see Europe, parts of north Africa and east Asia.
