Colorful World Globe Closeup

Colorful World Globe Closeup

Globes serve similar purposes to maps, but unlike maps, do not distort the surface that they portray except to scale it down. Flat maps are created using a map projection that inevitably introduces an increasing amount of distortion the larger the area that the map shows. The sphericity of the Earth was established by Greek astronomy in the 3rd century BC, and the earliest terrestrial globe appeared from that period. Traditionally, globes were manufactured by gluing a printed paper map onto a sphere, often made from wood. Usually a globe is mounted so that its spin axis is 23.5° from vertical, which is the angle the Earth's spin axis deviates from perpendicular to the plane of its orbit. In today's new puzzle we can see part of such a globe - we can see Europe, parts of north Africa and east Asia. Pick a difficulty level and start putting the colorful countries back together and relax with today's new puzzle. Have fun!

Colorful Tumbled Gemstones

If you didn't know, tumbled gemstones are small, rounded, brightly polished pieces of rocks and minerals. For tumbling of rocks as a lapidary technique, a plastic or rubber-lined barrel is loaded with a consignment of rocks, all of similar or the same hardness, some abrasive grit, and a liquid lubricant. A well-chosen speed for stone polishing causes the rocks within the barrel to slide past each other, with the abrasive grit between them resulting in the beautiful, colorful and shiny gems you see in this fun puzzle.
