Old Broken Tree Trunk

Although trees are very strong and built to withstand the weather and he environment in the area they live in, sometimes they do get damaged by the elements or other external factor. The broken trunk featured in today's puzzle belonged to an old tree that couldn't withstand the force of the wind during a storm.

Ready for a fun day in the snow? Grab your skis and join us on the snowy ski slopes. If you didn't know, a ski is a narrow strip of semi-rigid material worn underfoot to glide over snow. The oldest wooden skis found were in Russia (c. 6300-5000 BCE), Sweden (c. 5200 BCE) and Norway (c. 3200 BCE) respectively. They have evolved from being constructed from solid wood to using a variety of materials including carbon-Kevlar to make skis stronger, stiffer, lighter, and more durable. Skis are attached to ski boots with ski bindings, with either a free, lockable, or partially secured heel.

A View of Mount Vernon

If you didn't already know, Mount Vernon is an American landmark and former plantation of George Washington, the first president of the United States. It is located on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is named after Vice Admiral Edward Vernon, who had been Lawrence Washington's (Washington's older half-brother) commanding officer.

Toy Dinosaur

If you didn't know, dinosaurs first appeared during the Triassic period, between 243 and 233.23 million years ago. The first dinosaur fossils were recognized in the early 19th century, with the name "dinosaur" (meaning "terrible lizard") having been coined by Sir Richard Owen in 1841. Although most dinosaur were large in size, in today's new puzzle we feature a small toy one.

Rough Tree Bark

In today's puzzle we feature a close-up of a tree's bark. If you didn't know, bark is the outermost layers of stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. Bark often gets rougher as the tree ages. One of the functions of bark is to protect the plant against damage from environmental factors.

Plush Toys

Plush toys, also called stuffed toys, plushies, stuffed animals, stuffies or cuddly toys, are made in many different forms, but most resemble animals, creatures from stories, cartoon or movie characters, or objects. Plushies come in an array of different sizes, colors and shapes. The first stuffed toy was a felt elephant originally sold as a pincushion, created by the German Steiff company in 1880.

Colorful Handmade Rugs

In this new puzzle we feature some colorful handmade rugs. If you didn't know, the term carpet is often used in a similar context to the term rug, but rugs are typically considered to be smaller than a room and not attached to the floor. Rugs and carpets are used to add decoration or color to a room, insulate a person's feet from a cold floor, to make a room more comfortable as a place to sit on the floor, and to reduce sound from walking.

Firethorns (or pyracanthas) are thorny evergreen shrubs native to an area extending from Southwest Europe east to Southeast Asia. They are valuable ornamental plants, grown in gardens for their decorative flowers and fruit. Their fruit are either red, orange, or yellow pomes.

Old Log

In today's puzzle we feature an old log covered in moss. After being taken down by a powerful storm this big tree has been sitting on the forest floor for some time. With the passing of the seasons it has become a home for different types of moss, mushrooms, small animals and insects.
