Glasses are typically used for vision correction, such as with reading glasses and glasses used for nearsightedness. The first eyeglasses were made in Italy in about 1286, but it is not clear who the inventor was. he earliest pictorial evidence for the use of eyeglasses is Tommaso da Modena's 1352 portrait of the cardinal Hugh de Provence reading in a scriptorium. Early frames for glasses consisted of two magnifying glasses riveted together by the handles so that they could grip the nose. These are referred to as "rivet spectacles".

Ancient Greek Statue
In today's new puzzle we feature the bust of an ancient Greek statue. Inspired by the monumental stone sculpture of Egypt and Mesopotamia, the ancient Greeks began to carve in stone. Free-standing figures share the solidity and frontal stance characteristic of Eastern models, but their forms are more dynamic than those of Egyptian sculpture, as for example the Lady of Auxerre and Torso of Hera (Early Archaic period, c. 660–580 BCE, both in the Louvre, Paris). The Classical period saw a revolution of Greek sculpture, sometimes associated by historians with the popular culture surrounding the introduction of democracy and the end of the aristocratic culture. The Classical period saw changes in the style and function of sculpture, along with a dramatic increase in the technical skill of Greek sculptors in depicting realistic human forms.
