Garden Gnome With Butterfly

Today we feature a garden gnome with a blue butterfly on it's hand. Typically, garden gnomes stand between one and two feet (30 and 60 cm). If you didn't know, garden gnomes are lawn ornament figurines of small humanoid creatures based on the mythological creatures known as gnomes.

Brightly Colored Feathers

If you didn't know, feathers aid birds with flight, thermal insulation, and waterproofing. Their colors and patterns help in communication and protection. Garden croton, fire croton or variegated croton is native to Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and the western Pacific Ocean islands, growing in open forests and scrub. Depending on the cultivar, the leaves may be ovate to linear, entire to deeply lobed or crinkled, and variegated with green, white, purple, orange, yellow, red, or pink. In tropical climates, crotons are popular as garden or decorative patio plants. In colder climates they can survive only as house plants or in greenhouses.

The tree is widely cultivated, and was cultivated early in human history. It has various uses in traditional medicine and as a source of food. Although Ginkgo biloba and other species of the genus were once widespread throughout the world, its range shrank and by two million years ago, it was restricted to a small area of China. For centuries, it was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province in eastern China, in the Tianmushan Reserve.
