In 1829, Scots inventor Sir Isaac Holden invented an improved version of Walker's match and demonstrated it to his class at Castle Academy in Reading, Berkshire. In this new puzzle we're visiting Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon ("The Monastery of Auspicious Victory"), a Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya, Thailand. The temple was founded in the second half of the 14th century. The monastery got its present name after construction of the Chedi Chai Mongkhon in the late 16th century. The seated Buddha statue featured in this puzzle is just one of hundreds of Buddha images draped in yellow cloth seated on pedestals surrounding various monastery structures.

Although Ginkgo biloba and other species of the genus were once widespread throughout the world, its range shrank and by two million years ago, it was restricted to a small area of China. For centuries, it was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province in eastern China, in the Tianmushan Reserve.

This year's pumpkin harvest has turned out all right. Lots and lots of pumpkins, winter squashes and gords have been harvested and ready to be stored for winter. Like many fruits and root vegetables stored for the colder months, pumpkins and winter squash prefer a well-ventilated, dry place with a temperature that's between 55 and 60 degrees F and a relative humidity of about 50%. When stored properly, pie pumpkins and winter squash will keep for many months.
