Red Alarm Clock

Designed to make a sound at a specific time the alarm clock's primary utility of these clocks is to awaken people from their night's sleep or short naps. Traditional mechanical alarm clocks, like the red one in today's new jigsaw puzzle, have one or two bells that ring by means of a mainspring that powers a gear to propel a hammer back and forth between the two bells. User-settable mechanical alarm clocks date back at least to 15th-century Europe.

Colorful Pumpkins And Wicker Basket

In this fun and challenging, Autumn themed puzzle we feature a variety of colorful pumpkins in and around a wicker basket. Pumpkins, like other squash, are thought to have originated in North America. The oldest evidence, pumpkin-related seeds dating between 7000 and 5500 BC, was found in Mexico. The color of pumpkins derives from orange carotenoid pigments, including beta-cryptoxanthin, alpha and beta carotene, all of which are provitamin A compounds converted to vitamin A in the body. When ripe, the pumpkin can be boiled, steamed, or roasted. Most parts of the pumpkin are edible, including the fleshy shell, the seeds, the leaves, and even the flowers.
Lawn Mower Play

Lawn Mower

It's time to mow the lawn. So grab the lawn mower and let's go. The first lawn mower was invented by Edwin Budding in 1827 in Thrupp, just outside Stroud, in Gloucestershire. Budding's mower was designed primarily to cut the grass on sports grounds and extensive gardens. It took ten more years and further innovations to create a machine that could be drawn by animals, and sixty years before a steam-powered lawn mower was built. Modern rotary push mowers are powered by internal combustion engines or electricity. Corded electric mowers are limited in range by their trailing power cord, which may limit their use with lawns. While considered antiquated in modern times, the original type of push-powered reel mowers are still available.
Yew Play

Yew

Also known as English yew, or European yew, Taxus baccata is a conifer native to western, central and southern Europe, northwest Africa, northern Iran and southwest Asia. Baccata is Latin for bearing red berries. The word yew as it was originally used seems to refer to the color brown. It is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree, growing 10–20 meters tall, with a trunk up to 2 meters diameter. The leaves are flat, dark green. The red berry-like things you see in the image are seed cones, each cone containing a single seed, partly surrounded by a modified scale which develops into a soft, bright red structure called an aril.

Compact Cassettes

Between the early 1970s and the late 1990s, the cassette was one of the two most common formats for music distribution. Tape length usually is measured in minutes of total playing time. The most popular varieties are C46 (23 minutes per side), C60 (30 minutes per side), C90, and C120.
Saxophone Play

Saxophone

In this new puzzle we feature a saxophone. The saxophone was developed in 1880, by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian car maker, flautist, and clarinetist working in Paris. Saxophones are usually made of brass and played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to that of the clarinet. The saxophone is used in chamber music, such as the saxophone quartet, reed quintet, and other chamber combinations of instruments.
