The ruffled fan palm, Vanuatu fan palm or Palas palm, is a species of palm tree native to Vanuatu. Due to it's large fan-shaped leaves with attractive splitting patterns it is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and homes all around the world.

Rough Tree Bark

In today's puzzle we feature a close-up of a tree's bark. If you didn't know, bark is the outermost layers of stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. Bark often gets rougher as the tree ages. One of the functions of bark is to protect the plant against damage from environmental factors.

Euro Coins

In today's puzzle we feature lots and lots of overlapping Euro coins. If you didn't know, The euro came into existence on 1 January 1999 and there are eight euro coin denominations, ranging from one cent to two euros (1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, 1 and 2 euro). They have a common reverse, portraying a map of Europe, but each country in the eurozone has its own design on the obverse, which means that each coin has a variety of different designs in circulation at once.

Colored Pencils

If you didn't know, colored pencils are constructed of a narrow, pigmented core encased in a wooden case. Unlike graphite and charcoal pencils, colored pencils' cores are wax- or oil-based and contain varying proportions of pigments and other additives. In today's puzzle we feature a set of colored pencils with three shades of green, blue, yellow, red, a black, a pink, a orange, a brown, a grey and a white pencil.

The Comb of the Wind

Located at the end of the Ondarreta beach, in San Sebastián (in the Basque Country of Spain), the Peine del Viento (The Comb of the Wind) is a collection of three sculptures by Eduardo Chillida arranged as an architectural work by the Basque architect Luis Pena Ganchegui. It is made up of three of Chillida’s monumental steel sculptures, weighing 10 tons each, embedded in natural rocks rising from the Cantabrian Sea.

Hops

If you didn't know, hops are the flowers of the hop plant. They are used primarily as a bittering, flavoring, and stability agent in beer and as ingredients in various other beverages and herbal medicines. Hops are harvested at the end of summer. After they are harvested they are dried and then they are used in the brewing process.

Birch Tree

Birch trees are known for their graceful, delicate appearance and are often planted as ornamental trees in gardens and parks. They are medium-sized trees with slender trunks and light-colored bark that often peels in thin, papery layers. The bark of birch trees is typically white, cream, or pale yellow, although some species may have darker markings or a more reddish tint. Birch trees can range in height from small shrubs to large trees, depending on the species. They are typically found in cool, temperate climates and can grow in a wide range of soils, although they prefer moist, well-drained soils. Some species of birch trees are also known for their medicinal properties, and have been used in traditional medicine for their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Djembes

Start the day with a fun puzzle and some traditional drum music. In this new puzzle we feature a traditional African instrument - the djembe. If you didn't know, a djembe or jembe is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. The djembe has a body carved of hardwood and a drumhead made of untreated rawhide, most commonly made from goatskin. It's goblet shape suggests that it originally may have been created from a mortar (mortar and pestle are implements used since ancient times to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them into a fine paste or powder).

Colorful Butterfly On A Green Leaf

In this new puzzle we feature a brightly colored butterfly resting on a green leaf. Butterflies are important as pollinators for some species of plants. They feed primarily on nectar from flowers, but also derive nourishment from pollen, rotting fruit, tree sap, and dissolved minerals in wet sand or dirt. Nearly all butterflies are diurnal and have relatively bright colors.

Yellow Autumn Leaves

During the fall season leaves turn from green to various shades of yellow, red, orange, brown, and purple. This phenomenon is commonly called autumn colors, fall colors or fall foliage.
