About: Buttons are most often attached to articles of clothing but can also be used on containers such as wallets and bags. During their long history, these small fasteners have been made of vegetable ivory, metal, glass, galalith, silk, linen, cotton-covered crochet, lead, glass, enamel, horn, rubber, wood, bone, celluloid, porcelain, composition, tin, zinc, leather, paper, pressed cardboard, mother-of-pearl, stone, cloth-covered wooden shapes, and even papier-mache. Modern buttons are currently made out of hard plastic, metals, seashell, and wood.
