If you didn't know, the term spruce tree refers to a genus of about 35 species of coniferous evergreen trees. These beautiful trees grow to a height of 20 to 60 m, have whorled branches and a conical shape. Spruces are used as building wood, as medicine or food (fresh shoots of many spruces are a natural source of vitamin C) or as ornamental trees, admired for their evergreen, symmetrical narrow-conic growth habit. Red Lake

Today we're visiting the largest natural dam lake in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains. The lake is located at the foot of Hasmasul Mare Mountain, near the Bicaz Gorge, in Harghita County, Romania. It was formed following the collapse of a slope due to the earthquake of January 23, 1838. Soon after the valley had been closed, the forest was flooded, and the trees were petrified, giving a rare peculiarity to the whole landscape. Parts of the petrified spruce trunks can still be seen sticking out of the water to this day. The lake and surroundings are a popular tourist attraction.

The painting depicts a view of the Cezanne family residence , Jas de Bouffan mansion, near Aix-en-Provence. The mansion was built circa 1750 for Gaspard Trupheme, an Advisor to the Court of Audits. It was purchased by banker Louis-Auguste Cezanne, the father of famed painter Paul Cezanne, in 1859.
