The Twelve Apostles

Today we're in Victoria, Australia visiting the Twelve Apostles - a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of Port Campbell National Park. The harsh and extreme weather conditions from the Southern Ocean gradually erode the soft limestone to form caves in the cliffs, which then become arches that eventually collapse, leaving rock stacks up to 50 m high. The stacks were originally known as the Pinnacles, and the Sow and Pigs (or Sow and Piglets, with Muttonbird Island being the Sow and the smaller rock stacks being the Piglets), as well as the Twelve Apostles.

Fountains In The Park

What better way to spend a warm Autumn day than fishing in a breathtaking landscape? If you didn't know, recreational fishing took a great leap forward after the English Civil War, where a newly found interest in the activity left its mark on the many books and treatises that were written on the subject at the time. Pink Silk Trees

The pink silk tree, Persian silk tree, or mimosa tree, is a small deciduous tree with a broad crown of level or arching branches native to southwestern and eastern Asia. It is widely planted as an ornamental plant in parks and gardens. It's flowers bloom throughout the summer in dense inflorescences, which resemble starbursts of pink silky threads.

Reeds By The Lakeshore

If you didn't know, reed is the name used for several tall, grass-like plants of wetlands. Many different cultures have used these types of plants in construction of buildings of various types for at least thousands of years.

The Arcueil Aqueduct at Sceaux Railroad Crossing

Today we're visiting the Aqueduct in Arcueil, a commune in the Val-de-Marne department in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. The name Arcueil means "place of the arches" (Latin radical arcus, "arch", and Celtic suffix -ialo, "place of"), in reference to the Roman aqueduct carrying water to the Roman city of Lutetia (modern Paris). Between 1613 and 1624 a bridge-aqueduct over 400 meters long was constructed to bring water from the spring of Rungis, south of Arcueil, across the Bievre river to the Luxembourg Palace in Paris. Between 1868 and 1872 another aqueduct was superimposed above the previous one, forming part of the system bringing water from the river Vanne to Paris. This puzzle is based on a 1874 painting by Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin.
