If you didn't know, reed is a common name for several tall, grass-like plants of wetlands. The common reed grows up to 20 feet (6 metres) tall. It is often found at the upper edges of estuaries and on other wetlands.

Cold water lakes such as these support little plankton growth, ensuring that the lake waters are remarkably clear.
