Alpine Lakes And Forest

Alpine Lakes And Forest

In today's new puzzle we're visiting the Denali National Park in Alaska. In this beautiful image you can see the blue alpine lakes and the green forest under a blue cloudy sky. Denali National Park and Preserve is a national park and preserve located in Interior Alaska, centered on Denali (Mount McKinley), the highest mountain in North America. Glaciers cover about 16% of the 6 million acres of Denali National Park and Preserve. There are more extensive glaciers on the southeastern side of the range because more snow is dropped on this side from the moisture-bearing winds from the Gulf of Alaska. During the very cold Pleistocene climates, all of Denali was solidly frozen. In the northern areas of the range, it is very much still frozen due to continued cold temperatures. Permanently frozen ground is known as permafrost. Vegetation in the park depends on the altitude. The treeline is at 2,500 feet (760 m), causing most of the park to be a vast expanse of tundra. There are three types of forest in the park: from lowest to highest, they are low brush bog, bottomland spruce-poplar forest, upland spruce-hardwood forest. Over 450 species of flowering plants fill the park and can be viewed in bloom throughout summer.

The first major wave of settlers from mainland Greece was by the Dorian Greeks who came around 1100 BC. After the Fourth Crusade (1204) and the fall of Byzantium in the Hellenic area, Crete was given to Bonifacio, Marquess of Montferrat. He in turn chose to sell it to the Venetians for 100 silver marks. Chania was chosen as the seat of the Rector of the region and flourished as a significant commercial centre of a fertile agricultural region. The city's name became La Canea and its fortifications were strengthened, giving Chania the form that it still has today. he walls of the city did not prevent the Ottoman army from overrunning the city in 1645. The Muslims turned most churches into mosques. They also built new mosques such as the Küçük Hasan Pasha Mosque (featured in this fun puzzle) on the harbour. Have fun!

Canyon

Canyon

If you don't already know, a canyon or gorge is a deep cleft between escarpments or cliffs resulting from weathering and the erosive activity of a river over geologic timescales. A canyon may also refer to a rift between two mountain peaks, such as those in ranges including the Rocky Mountains, the Alps, the Himalayas or the Andes. Canyons are much more common in arid than in wet areas because physical weathering has a more localized effect in arid zones. Sometimes large rivers run through canyons as the result of gradual geological uplift.
