About: In this new landscape themed puzzle we're visiting the Gaztelugatxe islet on the coast of Biscay in Spain. The word gaztelugatxe comes from the Basque gaztelu = "castle" and atx = "rock", forming "the rock castle". The islet is surrounded by rough sea which ceaselessly erodes it's rocky coast creating tunnels, caves and arches like the ones featured in today's puzzle.

Groningen is the largest city in the north of the Netherlands and has approximately 230,000 inhabitants. It is an old city (more than 950 years) and was the regional power of the north of the Netherlands, a semi-independent city-state and member of the German Hanseatic League. The oldest document referring to Groningen's existence dates from 1040. The Winschoterdiep canal has total length is 35.5 kilometers, and it is approximately 100 meters in width. Sixteen bridges and locks are built across this canal, as well as many other passages. It is one of the oldest canals ever built in Groningen still in use.

Located in a breath taking alpine landscape, this beautiful mountain lake is near the Matterhorn - a mountain of the Alps, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. You can see the large, near-symmetric pyramidal peak reflected in the lake's clear water. The Matterhorn has two distinct summits, situated at either end of a 100-metre-long (330 ft) exposed rocky crest which forms the Italian/Swiss border. The tallest peak is 4,478 meters (14,692 ft) high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe. The German name Matterhorn is named for Mattertal and Zermatt (historically Matt "alpine meadow", the prefix zer- is a preposition).

Today we're going to Chania in Greece, the second largest city of Crete and the capital of the Chania regional unit. Chania is the site of the Minoan settlement the Greeks called Kydonia. The first major wave of settlers from mainland Greece was by the Dorian Greeks who came around 1100 BC. After the Fourth Crusade (1204) and the fall of Byzantium in the Hellenic area, Crete was given to Bonifacio, Marquess of Montferrat. He in turn chose to sell it to the Venetians for 100 silver marks. Chania was chosen as the seat of the Rector of the region and flourished as a significant commercial centre of a fertile agricultural region. The city's name became La Canea and its fortifications were strengthened, giving Chania the form that it still has today. he walls of the city did not prevent the Ottoman army from overrunning the city in 1645. The Muslims turned most churches into mosques. They also built new mosques such as the Küçük Hasan Pasha Mosque (featured in this fun puzzle) on the harbour. Have fun!
