River Landscape

The puzzle is based on a oil on canvas painting by Annibale Carracci (an Italian painter) and it depicts the landscape by the banks of a small river on sunny autumn day. Surrounded by trees and vegetation, in the center of the image, partially covered by a tree in the foreground, we can see a small boat being pushed along the shallow waters of the river by the boatman while the other passengers enjoy the beautiful autumn landscape.

The Belvedere Tower

Today we're visiting the Belvedere Tower in the Maloja Pass, Bregaglia Valley, Engadine, Canton of Graubunden, Switzerland. The "Torre Belvedere" is a 24-meter-high observation tower. It's built out of stone and it has an internal 112 step staircase. The viewing platform is located at a height of 22.5 meters and it offers a view of the Upper Engadine and Bergell alpine valleys.

Monument Valley

Today we're going to Arizona to visit Monument Valley. The valley is located on the Utah-Arizona state line and it's known for it's cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 300 m above the valley floor. If you didn't know a butte is an isolated hill with steep, often vertical sides and a small, relatively flat top. Buttes form by weathering and erosion. Monument Valley has some of the largest, most distinctive and widely recognized buttes.

Blades of Grass in the Summer Sun

Grand Teton National Park

Today we're going to Wyoming, to visit the Grand Teton National Park. The park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range(a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains) as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. It is an almost pristine ecosystem and the same species of flora and fauna that have existed since prehistoric times can still be found there. Grand Teton National Park is a popular destination for hiking, fishing, mountaineering, and other forms of recreation.

Red Lake

Today we're visiting the largest natural dam lake in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains. The lake is located at the foot of Hasmasul Mare Mountain, near the Bicaz Gorge, in Harghita County, Romania. It was formed following the collapse of a slope due to the earthquake of January 23, 1838. Soon after the valley had been closed, the forest was flooded, and the trees were petrified, giving a rare peculiarity to the whole landscape. Parts of the petrified spruce trunks can still be seen sticking out of the water to this day. The lake and surroundings are a popular tourist attraction.

Reeds And Water Lilies

In today's puzzle we feature a close-up of some beautiful white water lilies growing between reeds on the banks of a river. If you didn't know, reed is a common name for several tall, grass-like plants of wetlands. The common reed grows up to 20 feet (6 metres) tall. It is often found at the upper edges of estuaries and on other wetlands.

Rolls of Hay

Once hay is cut, dried and raked into windrows, it is usually gathered into bales, rolls or bundles, then hauled to a storage location. Hay is used as animal fodder, either for large grazing animals raised as livestock, such as horses, cattle, sheep, and goats, or for smaller domesticated animals such as rabbits. Commonly used plants for hay include mixtures of grasses such as orchard grass, ryegrass, timothy, brome, fescue, and other species. It may also include legumes and clovers.

The Twelve Apostles

Today we're in Victoria, Australia visiting the Twelve Apostles - a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of Port Campbell National Park. The harsh and extreme weather conditions from the Southern Ocean gradually erode the soft limestone to form caves in the cliffs, which then become arches that eventually collapse, leaving rock stacks up to 50 m high. The stacks were originally known as the Pinnacles, and the Sow and Pigs (or Sow and Piglets, with Muttonbird Island being the Sow and the smaller rock stacks being the Piglets), as well as the Twelve Apostles.

Gates of the Yosemite

Today's puzzle is based on Albert Bierstadt's 1882 painting called "Gates of the Yosemite". Bierstadt was a German-American painter best known for his breathtaking landscapes of the American West. The painting featured in this puzzle depicts the Gates of the Valley near the western end of Yosemite Valley (a glacial valley in Yosemite National Park in the western Sierra Nevada mountains of Central California).
