Golden Rayed Lilies

This beautiful lily is is native to Japan and it's called yamayuri (literally "mountain lily") in Japanese. The strongly scented flowers are the largest of any lily species. They are typically white with gold radial markings and orange spots, but variations in flower color and markings are known.

The saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana, it's flowers are featured in this puzzle) typically grows to a height of 20-30 feet (6-9 meters) and a width of 15-25 feet (4.5-7.5 meters), with a rounded or spreading shape. Its leaves are dark green and oval-shaped, and can grow up to 6 inches (15 cm) long. One of the most striking features of the saucer magnolia is its large, cup-shaped flowers, which can grow up to 10 inches (25 cm) in diameter. The flowers are usually pink or purplish-pink, with a white interior and a subtle fragrance. They bloom in early spring, before the leaves appear, and last for several weeks. It is a cross between Magnolia denudata and Magnolia liliiflora, and was first bred in France in the early 19th century.
