Vase of Flowers in a Niche

The vase of flowers in a marble niche featured in today's puzzle was painter in oil on canvas by Michel Bruno Bellenge (French, Rouen 1726–1793 Rouen). The painting was intended to be used in decorative paneling over a door. It is meant to be looked at from below. That vantage point and the way it was painted (the perspective, lights and shadows) trick the observer into thinking the vase, the flowers and the marble niche are real.

Snowdrops

In today's puzzle we feature some beautiful snowdrops. These beautiful flowers have two linear leaves and a single small white drooping bell-shaped flower with six petal-like tepals in two circles. Most species of snowdrops flower in late winter, but some flower in early spring and late autumn. They are native to Europe and the Middle East.
