About: Jigsaw Description: Horace Vernet (1789-1863) was one of the most successful artists of nineteenth-century France. Signed and dated 1836, The Lion Hunt painting, seems to have been a recollection of his first trip to Algeria. When the picture was first exhibited at the Paris Salon(1836) it was given the title Hunt in the Sahara Desert 28 May 1833.
