Meadow with Animals

Today's beautiful puzzle is based on an oil on canvas painting by Jan van Ravenswaay - a 19th-century landscape painter from the Northern Netherlands. The painting depicts animals grazing and resting on a grassy meadow. You can see a couple of horses in one corner, a young shepherd boy resting with his goats and cows in the foreground and event some cute ducks swimming in a small pond in the bottom right corner.

Roses from The Temple of Flora

This puzzle is based on a mezzotint printed in colors by Robert John Thornton featuring a bunch of roses within which two thrushes are nesting, in the background a temple with a statue. If you didn't know, mezzotint is a printmaking process of the intaglio family, technically a drypoint method. This technique can achieve a high level of quality and richness in the print.

The Apple Market

Today's puzzle is based on an oil on canvas painting from 1880 by Stanislas Lepine (a French painter who specialized in landscapes, especially views of the Seine). In this landscape beautiful painting, Lepine depicts an apple market on the banks of the river Seine in Paris in the late 1800s. Put the pieces back together and see the people buying and selling baskets full of freshly picked apples.

View of Olinda, Brazil

Today we're going back in time and visiting Olinda, Brazil in 1662. This puzzle is based on an oil on canvas painting Frans Jansz Post. It depicts Olinda Cathedral (damaged when the Dutch captured the region from the Portuguese in the 1630s) in the background and a variety of indigenous animals, plants, birds and even insects in the foreground. Today's puzzle is based on "The New Bonnet", a mid 19th-century oil on canvas painting by American artist Francis William Edmonds. The painting depicts a familial scene in which a woman receives a new bonnet. The family (a woman, her mother and father) are presented as being shocked by the price of the bonnet.

The image depicts a freshly backed loaf of bread, a plate full of figs, small wooden bared, a bottle and a knife sitting on a table.

This fun and challenging puzzle is based on a painting called "Child with Toys" by Auguste Renoir. The painting depicts the artist's son, Jean playing with his nanny Gabrielle. Gabrielle Renard became an important member of the family of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, first becoming their nanny, and subsequently a frequent model for the artist. She developed a strong bond with the Renoirs' second son, the future filmmaker Jean Renoir (the child in this painting), lasted throughout their lives.
