Child with Toys

This fun and challenging puzzle is based on a painting called "Child with Toys" by Auguste Renoir. The painting depicts the artist's son, Jean playing with his nanny Gabrielle. Gabrielle Renard became an important member of the family of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, first becoming their nanny, and subsequently a frequent model for the artist. She developed a strong bond with the Renoirs' second son, the future filmmaker Jean Renoir (the child in this painting), lasted throughout their lives.

Woman in the Garden

Today's puzzle is based on an oil painting begun in 1866 by French artist Claude Monet. Dressed in the fashion of the day, the lady in the painting was posed by Lecadre's wife, Monet's cousin, Paul-Eugene Lecadre. The garden was located on the Le Coteaux estate at Sainte-Adresse near Le Havre.

The Bell Inn

Solve today's puzzle and see how and inn used to look in the late 1700s. The Bell Inn featured in this puzzle was painted by the British artist George Morland in the late 1780s. Before the Race

Are you ready for the race? In this new puzzle we feature a painting by the Impressionist French painter Edgar Degas called "Before the Race". The painting depicts four jockeys on horseback just before a race. The horse and rider theme was one of Degas's favorites. He returned to this theme time and time again throughout his career. Over the course of his career it is reported that he created 45 oils, 20 pastels, 250 drawings, and 17 sculptures related to horses.

Roses from The Temple of Flora

This puzzle is based on a mezzotint printed in colors by Robert John Thornton featuring a bunch of roses within which two thrushes are nesting, in the background a temple with a statue. If you didn't know, mezzotint is a printmaking process of the intaglio family, technically a drypoint method. This technique can achieve a high level of quality and richness in the print.

Monsieur Boileau at the Cafe

Today's puzzle is based on a painting by the French painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The painting depicts a certain Mr. Bolleau, who must have been a friend of Lautrec, relaxing in a small cafe in Paris.

View of Florence

Today's puzzle is based on "View of Florence", a painting by American artist Thomas Cole. The painting was completed in 1837 and it depicts a panoramic view of the city of Florence, Italy, with the Arno River flowing through the foreground and the city's iconic red-tiled rooftops and the famous Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio in the background. The painting is notable for its highly detailed and realistic depiction of the cityscape, as well as its use of light and color to create a sense of atmosphere and depth. Cole, who is best known for his landscape paintings of the American wilderness, created this painting while on a trip to Europe, where he was inspired by the rich history and culture of Italy.

The Postman

Today's puzzle is based on Vincent Van Gogh's 1888 painting with the same name. Joseph Roulin, the main character of this painting, was a postal employee in Arles, became a surrogate "big brother" for the artist, caring for Vincent during the major onset of mental illness that came in 1888, and seeing him through the asylum months of early 1889.

Still Life with Apples and Pitcher

Today's puzzle is based on a painting by Camille Pissarro. It depicts a pitcher, a glass of wine, some apples and knife on a table. Pissarro painted few still lifes, most late in his career and this is one of them. The other comparable work by the author uses the same setting, it's the same size and it features the same floral wallpaper in the background.

First Steps, after Millet

This puzzle is based on Vincent van Gogh's painting called "First Steps, after Millet". While a patient at the asylum in Saint-Remy, Van Gogh painted twenty-one copies after Millet, an artist he greatly admired. The painting depicts a fenced-in garden behind a house and two parents encouraging their child to walk for the first time.

The Art of Painting

This new puzzle is based on "The Art of Painting", also known as "The Allegory of Painting", or "Painter in his Studio", is a 17th-century oil on canvas painting by Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The painting depicts an artist painting a woman dressed in blue posing as a model in his studio. The painter was thought to be a self-portrait of the artist and it has been suggested that the young woman could be his daughter. The painting is considered a work with significance for Vermeer because he did not part with it or sell it, even when he was in debt.
