View of Florence

Today's puzzle is based on "View of Florence", a painting by American artist Thomas Cole. The painting was completed in 1837 and it depicts a panoramic view of the city of Florence, Italy, with the Arno River flowing through the foreground and the city's iconic red-tiled rooftops and the famous Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio in the background. The painting is notable for its highly detailed and realistic depiction of the cityscape, as well as its use of light and color to create a sense of atmosphere and depth. Cole, who is best known for his landscape paintings of the American wilderness, created this painting while on a trip to Europe, where he was inspired by the rich history and culture of Italy.

Hummingbird and Passionflowers

Today's puzzle is based on a painting by Martin Johnson Heade. The American artist was fascinated with hummingbirds and painted them in several of his works. The particular species of the hummingbird represented in this painting is the black-eared fairy. It lives in the same area of the Amazon basin where the passionflower grows.

Garden at Sainte-Adresse

This puzzle is based on the painting with the same name by the French impressionist painter Claude Monet. Monet spent the summer of 1867 at the resort town of Sainte-Adresse on the English Channel, near Le Havre (France). It was there, in a garden with a view of Honfleur on the horizon, that he painted this picture. The models were probably Monet's father, Adolphe, in the foreground, Monet's cousin's wife Jeanne-Marguerite Lecadre at the fence; Adolphe, her father; and perhaps, Sophie, her sister, the woman seated with her back to the viewer. The painting is now in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Today's puzzle is based on a painting by Auguste Renoir. It depicts madame Georges Charpentier and her children, Georgette-Berthe and Paul-Emile-Charles in the Japanese-style sitting room of her Parisian townhouse.

The Prize Piggies

In this new puzzle we feature three cute piggies. The puzzle image is based on "The Prize Piggies"(Christmas and New Year card) (1891) by L. Prang & Co. The original picture it depicts five small pigs in a pigsty looking out of a framed barn window. The picture was first exhibited in "Chromo-Mania! The Art of Chromolithography in Boston, 1840-1910.". The Prize Piggies was said to be the most popular picture of 1891.

Venice Watercolor Painting

Today's puzzle is based on a watercolor over black chalk painting by the French painter and printmaker Henri Edmond Cross. The painting depicts a scene from Venice in the early 1900s. The city is built on a group of over 100 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by over 400 bridges. It is the capital of the Veneto region in northeastern Italy.

A Month's Darning

Today's puzzle is based on Enoch Wood Perry's 1876 painting with the same name. The painting depicts a young woman sitting by a window darning. If you didn't know, darning is a sewing technique for repairing holes or worn areas in fabric or knitting. The painting is called A Month's Daring because, in the original painting (not visible in this puzzle), by her side she has a basket full of clothes and socks that need fixing.

Cliff Walk at Pourville

Today's puzzle is based on a painting by Claude Monet. Cliff Walk at Pourville was painted in February 1882 went Claude Monet went to Normandy to retreat from personal and professional pressures and paint. The landscape painting features two women atop a cliff above the sea.

Farmhouse in Provence

Today's puzzle is based on the 1888 painting with the same name. Also known as Entrance Gate to a Farm with Haystacks, Farmhouse in Provence is an oil-on-canvas by Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. At the time that Van Gogh made this beautiful painting, he was 35 years old and living in Arles, in southern France. During this period he produced some of his best work, such as fields, farmhouses and people of the Arles and Avignon area. As you might of already noticed, Van Gogh used several pairs of complementary colors in the Farmhouse in Provence, the color contrast bringing an intensity to his work.

Fruit And Sugar Cubes

This puzzle is based on a still life painting by Hannah Brown Skeele. It features a bowl full of strawberries, one full of various fruit (bananas, oranges, pineapple, apples and lemons), sugar cubes in an ornate silver container and a spoon and knife on a table.

Near the Lake

Today's puzzle is based on a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The painting depicts a man and a little girl near a lake on a sunny summer day. The man is looking out on to the lake, while the little girl seems to be asking him a question. What do you think is happening in this scene? Have fun!
