The Country Store

Today's puzzle is based on the oil on canvas painting with the same name by Edward Lamson Henry (January 12, 1841 - May 9, 1919), commonly known as E.L. Henry, an American genre painter, born in Charleston, South Carolina. He was best known for themes involving transportation, especially railroads, but also stage coach and canal boat journeys and other colonial and early American themes. The Country Store was painted after he and his wife had moved in their home in Cragsmoor, New York. The painting depicts a small store on a dirt country road in the 1800s.

The Garden at Petit Gennevilliers

Today's puzzle is base on an oil on canvas painting by Gustave Caillebotte. Caillebotte was an avid gardener and designed the garden featured in this beautiful painting on his property in Petit Gennevilliers. He painted several scenes of his garden.

Two Sisters

This new puzzle is based on an 1881 oil-on-canvas painting by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir called the "Two Sisters" or "On the Terrace". The painting depicts a young woman and her younger sister seated outdoors with a small basket containing balls of wool. Renoir worked on the painting on the terrace of the Maison Fournaise, a restaurant located on an island in the Seine in Chatou, the western suburb of Paris.

Little Girl With Kitten

Today's puzzle is based on painting by John F. Francis. The Grand Canal in Venice

Today we're visiting The Grand Canal in Venice in 1740. This fun and challenging puzzle is based on Giovanni Antonio Canal (commonly known as Canaletto, an Italian painter from the Republic of Venice) 1740 oil on canvas painting "The Grand Canal in Venice from Palazzo Flangini to Campo San Marcuola". Canaletto made at least three versions of this view of the Grand Canal. He recorded every detail of every building along the canal, every window, door, and chimney and other architectural details.

Poppies, Isles of Shoals

The Isles of Shoals are a group of small islands are situated approximately 6 miles (10 km) off the New Hampshire coast in the United States. The author of the painting this puzzle is based on, Childe Hassam, was a regular visitor of the islands. The view featured in this painting, centered on an outcropping called Babb's Rock, was one of Hassam's favorite places on the islands. He painted this area many times.

Still Life with Flowers and Fruit

Today's art themed puzzle is based on the 1866 "Still Life with Flowers and Fruit" painting by Henri Fantin-Latour. The painting is one of four still lifes commissioned from the artist by Michael Spartali (a Greek businessman and diplomat). In addition to his realistic paintings, like the one in this puzzle, Fantin-Latour created imaginative lithographs inspired by the music of some of the great classical composers.

Pergola with Oranges

The beautiful pergola surrounded by orange trees featured in today's puzzle was painted by Thomas Fearnley in oil on paper mounted on canvas in c. 1834. If you didn't know, a pergola is an outdoor garden feature forming a shaded walkway or sitting area of vertical posts or pillars. As a type of gazebo, it may also be an extension of a building or serve as protection for an open terrace or a link between pavilions.

Old Hook Mill

This fun new puzzle is based on Edward Lamson Henry's oil on canvas painting called "Old Hook Mill, Easthampton". If you didn't know, the Hook Windmill was the last wind-powered grain mill built in East Hampton, New York. It was constructed in 1806, it operated until 1908 and it still stands today. In the painting E.L. Henry depicts the mill in the calm after a storm. At the mill's entrance several men can be seen loading sacks of flour into a horse-drawn wagon.

Landscape, Bridge, Huntingdon Valley

Another beautiful art themed puzzle is here. This new one is based on H. Lyman Sayen 1915/1916 oil on canvas painting : " Landscape, Bridge, Huntingdon Valley". If you didn't know, Sayen (1875 -1918) was an American pioneer in the design of x-ray tubes who also distinguished himself as an abstract artist.

Still Life with Peaches and Grapes

Another art themed puzzle is here. In this new one we feature a painting called "Still Life with Peaches and Grapes" by Auguste Renoir( a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style). Renoir made this painting, and a similar one showing a jardiniere full of freshly picked peaches, during his stay at the country home of his patron Paul Berard in the small Normandy village of Wargemont in 1881.

View of Florence

Today's puzzle is based on "View of Florence", a painting by American artist Thomas Cole. The painting was completed in 1837 and it depicts a panoramic view of the city of Florence, Italy, with the Arno River flowing through the foreground and the city's iconic red-tiled rooftops and the famous Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio in the background. The painting is notable for its highly detailed and realistic depiction of the cityscape, as well as its use of light and color to create a sense of atmosphere and depth. Cole, who is best known for his landscape paintings of the American wilderness, created this painting while on a trip to Europe, where he was inspired by the rich history and culture of Italy.
