About: Today we're going to Cochem,the seat of and the biggest town in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, to visit the Cochem Imperial castle. Towering over 100 metres above the county seat of Cochem, on the peak of a hill visible from afar, is the landmark of this town. It was built as a fortress in Romanesque style after 1056. The Reichsburg Cochem had its first documentary mention in 1130. In 1151, it was occupied by King Konrad III, who declared it an Imperial castle.

The foundation stone of Nesvizh Palace was laid in 1584 and it was rebuilt many times. In the late 19th century Nesvizh Palace was restored by the Radziwil family who also designed one of largest landscape gardens in Europe on the estate. In 1994 the estate was designated the national historical and cultural reserve and in 2006 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Chateau de Hautefort is a French castle and gardens located in the town of Hautefort in the Dordogne. The first owner of the estate was Guy de Lastours, around the year 1000. The Chateau experienced its most sumptuous period in the 17th century. During the French Revolution, the castle, used as a "prison for suspects" from 1793 to 1795, was saved from destruction.In 1853, Count de Choulot undertook a complete remodelling of the gardens at Hautefort at the request of the Baron de Damas, who became the owner of the Chateau .

Asen's Fortress is a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains. It is located near the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, but the fortress gained importance in the Middle Age. It was considerably renovated in the 13th century during the rule of Bulgarian tsar Ivan Asen II. The best preserved and most notable feature of Asen's Fortress is the Church of the Holy Mother of God from the 12th-13th.

Schloss Ort is an Austrian castle situated in the Traunsee lake, in Gmunden. It was built around 1080 by Hartnidus of Ort, and improvements continued to be made into the thirteenth century. From 1484 to 1491, the castle was governed by Gotthard von Starhenberg, the Governor of Upper Austria. In 1492, Bernhard of Starhenberg and later his descendants ruled the castle until 1584. In 1876, the castle was acquired by Archduke John Salvator of Austria (John of Tuscany). The castle was later acquired by Franz Joseph I of Austria (in 1914). On January 5, 1995, the castle was officially acquired by the city of Gmunden. At present the castle is being used for a study center of the Federal Ministry for Land and Forestry. Located near Kværndrup, in the south of the island of Funen, Denmark, Egeskov Castle is Europe's best preserved Renaissance water castle (a castle or stately home whose site is entirely surrounded by water-filled moats). The castle structure was erected by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554. The castle consists of two long buildings connected by a thick double wall, allowing defenders to abandon one house and continue fighting from the other. The architecture includes depressed and round-arched windows, round-arched blank arcading within the gables, and a double string course between the high cellar and the ground floor. Surrounding the castle is an old park divided into a number of gardens featuring fountains, a gravel path and topiary figures.

The Scaligero Castle is a fortress from the Scaliger era (The Della Scala family, whose members were known as Scaligeri ,was the ruling family of Verona and mainland Veneto (except for Venice) from 13th to 14th century, for a total of 125 years) located in Sirmione (a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, northern Italy). Thanks to its strategical geographical location as a border outpost, Sirmione became a crucial defense and control garrison for the ruling nobles, retaining this function until the sixteenth century. The massive fortress is totally surrounded by water and from the drawbridge, a staircase leads to the walkways above the walls, providing a marvelous view of the harbour.

The Kraków Barbican is a barbican (a fortified outpost or gateway, such as an outer defence to a city or castle, or any tower situated over a gate or bridge) once connected to the city walls. The Gothic-style barbican, built around 1498, is one of only three such fortified outposts still surviving in Europe. It is a moated cylindrical brick structure with an inner courtyard 24.4 meters in diameter, and seven turrets. The Poles built the barbican fearing an attack by the Ottoman Empire.

The original castle, built from 1542–1546, was a hunting lodge for Moritz of Saxony, then Duke of Saxony. In 1728, a park was added to the castle on the adjacent land to the north. The interior of the castle is furnished with examples of opulent baroque decor from the time of Augustus the Strong. The walls are covered in 17th century gold-gilded leather. Many rooms' furnishings are dedicated to courtly hunting.
