On its estate there is a tree, said to be the thickest tree in the Netherlands ( "de dikke boom van Verwolde"). For 200 years, Castle Verwolde was inhabited by various generations of the same family. In summer, guided tours of this castle are organized for tourists.

Located on an island in the middle of the Indre river in the town of Azay-le-Rideau in the French departement of Indre-et-Loire, this château was built between 1518 and 1527 and is considered one of the foremost examples of early French renaissance architecture. This relatively small château is divided into two sections, the main central body and a wing at right angles to it, and displays a blend of architectural styles. The château's most prominent feature is the grand central staircase, the escalier d'honneur. Its design is thought to have been inspired by the staircase of the Château de Châteaudun, which it resembles. Azay-le-Rideau's staircase rises in straight flights rather than in a spiral, as was more usual at this time, and is the oldest surviving staircase of this kind in France.

The castle in Bobolice was built by King Casimir III the Great in the middle of the 14th century. It was a part of the defense system of royal strongholds protecting the western border of Poland. The castle is situated on a steep rocky hill and it was accessible through a drawbridge over the dry moat, and the entire construction was surrounded by walls with battlement.

Located near Kværndrup, in the south of the island of Funen, Denmark, Egeskov Castle is Europe's best preserved Renaissance water castle (a castle or stately home whose site is entirely surrounded by water-filled moats). The castle structure was erected by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554. The castle consists of two long buildings connected by a thick double wall, allowing defenders to abandon one house and continue fighting from the other. The architecture includes depressed and round-arched windows, round-arched blank arcading within the gables, and a double string course between the high cellar and the ground floor. Surrounding the castle is an old park divided into a number of gardens featuring fountains, a gravel path and topiary figures.

The Golubac Fortress was a medieval fortified town on the south side of the Danube River, 4 km (2.5 mi) downstream from the modern-day town of Golubac, Serbia. It is strategically located on the embankment of the Danube River where it narrows to form the Iron Gate gorge. It was the last military outpost on that stretch of the Danube river, which caused it to frequently be part of the final line of defense between Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. The fortress consists of three main compounds guarded by 9 towers, 2 portcullises and a palace, all connected by fortress walls 2 to 3 m thick.

This castle/villa was built in 1888 by the artist Ludwig Scheuermann (1859 -1911). Scheuermann himself designed the villa, inspired by the Italian aristocratic palaces. The medieval castle featured in today's puzzle is nestled in the hills above the Moselle River between Koblenz and Trier, Germany. The castle is surrounded on three sides by the Elzbach River. The castle is a so-called Ganerbenburg, or castle belonging to a community of joint heirs. The main part of the castle consists of the family portions. At up to eight stories, these eight towers reach heights of between 30 and 40 metres. They are fortified with strong exterior walls. Today, the Rübenach and Rodendorf families' homes in the castle are open to the public, while the Kempenich branch of the family uses the other third of the castle. The public is admitted seasonally, from April to October.

The Chateau experienced its most sumptuous period in the 17th century. During the French Revolution, the castle, used as a "prison for suspects" from 1793 to 1795, was saved from destruction.In 1853, Count de Choulot undertook a complete remodelling of the gardens at Hautefort at the request of the Baron de Damas, who became the owner of the Chateau .
