About: One of North-Rhine Westphalia's few privately owned castles, the Anholt moated castle was named after the former city of Anholt, today a district of Isselburg in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its origins lie in a defensive fortification from the 12th century. A museum was opened in 1966 in the castle. Among others, the largest private collection of paintings in North Rhine-Westphalia with numerous works by well-known Dutch masters such as Rembrandt (for example The Bath of Diana with Actaeon and Callisto ), Jan van Goyen and Gerard ter Borch (Portrait of Gesina ter Borch as a shepherdess) the armory and an extensive porcelain collection are can viewed in the museum.

In this fun new puzzle we're vising Heidelberg, a university town in Baden-Württemberg situated on the river Neckar in south-west Germany. A scientific hub in Germany, the city of Heidelberg is home to several internationally renowned research facilities adjacent to its university, including four Max Planck Institutes. Modern Heidelberg can trace its beginnings to the fifth century. The village Bergheim ("Mountain Home") is first mentioned for that period in documents dated to 769 AD. The "old town", featured in this jigsaw game, situated on the south bank of the Neckar is dominated by the ruins of Heidelberg Castle, 80 metres above the Neckar on the steep wooded slopes of the Königstuhl (King's chair or throne) hill. The castle is a mix of styles from Gothic to Renaissance. The castle is surrounded by a park, where the famous poet Johann von Goethe once walked.

Bouchout Castle is a castle in the Flemish town of Meise, Belgium. Most likely, the first fortification was built by Wouter van Craaynem at the end of the Grimbergen Wars (1150–1170). At about 1300, the Donjon tower of Bouchout Castle was erected by Daniel van Bouchout, a knight who fought gloriously at the Battle of Worringen. The first major renovation was performed by Christoffel d'Assonville at about 1600. At the end of the 17th century, Peter-Ferdinand Roose transformed the castle into a Renaissance "Chateau de Bouchout", surrounded with French ornamental gardens. Unfortunately, the castle was partly destroyed during the French Revolution period (1800–1830). The castle was restored in 1832 by count Amadeus de Beauffort, who gave Bouchout Castle its current Neo-Gothic appearance.

The Scaligero Castle is a fortress from the Scaliger era (The Della Scala family, whose members were known as Scaligeri ,was the ruling family of Verona and mainland Veneto (except for Venice) from 13th to 14th century, for a total of 125 years) located in Sirmione (a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, northern Italy). Thanks to its strategical geographical location as a border outpost, Sirmione became a crucial defense and control garrison for the ruling nobles, retaining this function until the sixteenth century. The massive fortress is totally surrounded by water and from the drawbridge, a staircase leads to the walkways above the walls, providing a marvelous view of the harbour.

Ananuri was a castle and seat of the eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle complex is located on the Aragvi River in Georgia. The fortifications consist of two castles joined by a crenelated curtain wall. Within the complex, among other buildings, are two churches. The older Church of the Virgin, which abuts a tall square tower. It dates from the first half of the 17th century, and was built of brick. The larger Church of the Mother of God, is a central dome style structure with richly decorated facades, including a carved north entrance and a carved grapevine cross on the south facade.

Asen's Fortress is a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains. It is located near the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, but the fortress gained importance in the Middle Age. It was considerably renovated in the 13th century during the rule of Bulgarian tsar Ivan Asen II. The best preserved and most notable feature of Asen's Fortress is the Church of the Holy Mother of God from the 12th-13th.
