Ananuri Castle Puzzle Details:

About: Ananuri was a castle and seat of the eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle complex is located on the Aragvi River in Georgia. The fortifications consist of two castles joined by a crenelated curtain wall. Within the complex, among other buildings, are two churches. The older Church of the Virgin, which abuts a tall square tower. It dates from the first half of the 17th century, and was built of brick. The larger Church of the Mother of God, is a central dome style structure with richly decorated facades, including a carved north entrance and a carved grapevine cross on the south facade.

This Baroque palace is located in Troja, Prague's north-west borough. It was built for the Counts of Sternberg from 1679 to 1691 and is mostly the work of French architect Jean Baptiste Mathey. The palace was bought in 1922 by the Czechoslovakian state, which started a restoration in the seventies. Today the palace hosts the 19th century Czech art collections of the City Gallery.

Asen's Fortress is a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains. It is located near the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, but the fortress gained importance in the Middle Age. It was considerably renovated in the 13th century during the rule of Bulgarian tsar Ivan Asen II. The best preserved and most notable feature of Asen's Fortress is the Church of the Holy Mother of God from the 12th-13th.

Egeskov Castle

Located near Kværndrup, in the south of the island of Funen, Denmark, Egeskov Castle is Europe's best preserved Renaissance water castle (a castle or stately home whose site is entirely surrounded by water-filled moats). The castle structure was erected by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554. The castle consists of two long buildings connected by a thick double wall, allowing defenders to abandon one house and continue fighting from the other. The architecture includes depressed and round-arched windows, round-arched blank arcading within the gables, and a double string course between the high cellar and the ground floor. Surrounding the castle is an old park divided into a number of gardens featuring fountains, a gravel path and topiary figures.

The stone gate in this puzzle, called the Jerusalem Gate or "lower gate", is one of the entrances to the medieval stronghold in Büdingen (a town in the Wetteraukreis, in Hesse, Germany). Since 1442 the masters of Büdingen have been known as Grafen of Isenburg-Büdingen. After a local war, Graf Ludwig II built an enormous new defensive wall with 22 towers around the old stronghold between 1480 and 1510. These walls are still nearly complete and they are one of the most important medieval strongholds in Germany.

The Highcliffe Castle was built in aGothic Revival style on the site of High Cliff house, a Georgian Mansion designed for the 3rd Earl of Bute. The design incorporates large quantities of carved Medieval stonework salvaged from the Norman Benedictine Abbey of St Peter at Jumieges and the Grande Maison des Andelys.

It was first built in the Middle Ages, and it owes its present appearance to an almost complete rebuilding begun by Francisco de Cubas in 1878. The building is surrounded by a park which includes palms and exotic plants.

Today's new jigsaw takes us to the beautiful coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The impressive building on the rocky seashore in the top left corner of the puzzle image is Fort Lovrijenac ( or St. Lawrence Fortress). Often called "Dubrovnik's Gibraltar",the fortress is located outside the western wall of the city. It stands 37 m above sea level. Lovrijenac has a triangular shape with three terraces. The thickness of the walls facing the outside reach 12 m. On the right side of the image (where you can see a medieval canon) you can also see part of Fort Bokar.

It's located near Boldt Castle - a major landmark and tourist attraction in the Thousand Islands region of the U.S. state of New York. Originally a private mansion built by American millionaire George Boldt, it is today maintained as a tourist attraction.

The Scaligero Castle is a fortress from the Scaliger era (The Della Scala family, whose members were known as Scaligeri ,was the ruling family of Verona and mainland Veneto (except for Venice) from 13th to 14th century, for a total of 125 years) located in Sirmione (a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, northern Italy). Thanks to its strategical geographical location as a border outpost, Sirmione became a crucial defense and control garrison for the ruling nobles, retaining this function until the sixteenth century. The massive fortress is totally surrounded by water and from the drawbridge, a staircase leads to the walkways above the walls, providing a marvelous view of the harbour.
