The grey crowned cranes are about 1 m tall and weighs 3.5 kg and a wingspan of 2 m. Their body plumage is mainly grey and their heads have crowns of stiff golden feathers. These birds are omnivores, eating plants, seeds, insects, small fish and animals (like frogs).

The plumage of these kind of parrots is mostly scarlet, but the rump and tail-covert feathers are light blue, the greater upper wing coverts are yellow, the upper sides of the flight feathers of the wings are dark blue as are the ends of the tail feathers. They go on seasonal migrations in search of food, water and mates. At Chobe National Park, Botswana, elephant herds travel 325 km to visit the river when the local waterholes dry up. This jigsaw is based on Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert painting with the same name.
