American Pikas

American Pikas

American pikas, known in the 19th century as "little Chief hares" are found in the mountains of western North America, usually in boulder fields at or above the tree line. Pikas inhabit talus fields that are fringed by suitable vegetation on alpine areas. They eat a large variety of green plants, including different kinds of grasses, sedges, thistles, and fireweed.
Three Bears

Three Bears

Bears have large bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, shaggy hair, plantigrade paws with five non retractile claws, and short tails. While the polar bear is mostly carnivorous, and the giant panda feeds almost entirely on bamboo, the remaining six species are omnivorous with varied diets. The English word "bear" comes from Old English bera and belongs to a family of names for the bear in Germanic languages that originate from an adjective meaning "brown".
Lapwings

Lapwings

This new puzzle features a pair of lapwings and their nest. The traditional terms `plover`, `lapwing` and `dotterel` were coined long before modern understandings of the relationships between different groups of birds emerged: in consequence, several of the Vanellinae are still often called `plovers`, and the reverse also applies, albeit more rarely, to some Charadriinae (the `true` plovers and dotterels). The birds in this puzzle are Northern Lapwing. The Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), also known as the Peewit, Green Plover or (in the British Isles) just Lapwing, is a bird in the plover family. It is common through temperate Eurasia. It is highly migratory over most of its extensive range, wintering further south as far as north Africa, northern India, Pakistan, and parts of China. It is a wader which breeds on cultivated land and other short vegetation habitats. 3 – 4 eggs are laid in a ground scrape. The nest and young are defended noisily and aggressively against all intruders, up to and including horses and cattle.

Deer Stag On A Foggy Day

It's a foggy day and the beautiful deer stag featured in today's animal themed puzzle is out for a walk in forest clearing. The majority of large deer species inhabit temperate mixed deciduous forest, mountain mixed coniferous forest, tropical seasonal/dry forest, and savanna habitats around the world. The highest concentration of large deer species in temperate North America lies in the Canadian Rocky Mountain and Columbia Mountain regions between Alberta and British Columbia where all five North American deer species (white-tailed deer, mule deer, caribou, elk, and moose) can be found. The Eurasian Continent (including the Indian Subcontinent) boasts the most species of deer in the world, with most species being found in Asia. Australia has six introduced species of deer that have established sustainable wild populations from acclimatization society releases in the 19th century.

Hummingbird And Red Flower

Hummingbird And Red Flower

Hummingbirds are native to the Americas and are the smallest of birds. The majority of species occur in tropical and subtropical Central and South America. Most species measure 7.5–13 cm (3–5 in) in length. They are known as hummingbirds because of the humming sound created by their beating wings, which flap at high frequencies. For nutrition, hummingbirds eat a variety of insects, including mosquitoes, fruit flies, gnats in flight or aphids on leaves and spiders in their webs.To supplement their energy needs, hummingbirds drink nectar, a sweet liquid inside certain flowers. Hummingbirds do not spend all day flying, as the energy cost would be prohibitive; the majority of their activity consists simply of sitting or perching.
