Ducks and Geese

Ducks and Geese are adapted for swimming, floating on the water surface, and in some cases diving in at least shallow water. They are generally herbivorous as adults, feeding on various water-plants, although some species also eat fish, molluscs, or aquatic arthropods. Humans have had a long relationship with ducks and geese; they are important economically and culturally to humans. Duck and goose feathers and down have long been popular for bedspreads, pillows, sleeping bags, and coats. In this fun new puzzle we feature a group of domestic geese and ducks.

White Stork

In today's new jigsaw puzzle we feature a stork building it's nest. Storks are large, long-legged, long-necked wading birds with long, stout bills. The white stork's plumage is mainly white, with black on its wings. A carnivore, the White Stork eats a wide range of animal prey, including insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and small birds. It takes most of its food from the ground, among low vegetation, and from shallow water. Due to its large size, predation on vermin, and nesting behaviour close to human settlements and on rooftops, the White Stork has an imposing presence that has had an impact on human culture and folklore. According to European folklore, the stork is responsible for bringing babies to new parents. The legend is very ancient, but was popularised by a 19th-century Hans Christian Andersen story called The Storks.

This yellow-eyed, black-beaked white bird is easily recognizable. It is 52–71 centimetres long, with a 125–150 centimetres wingspan. Also, these birds can weigh anywhere from 1.6 to 3 kilograms. It is one of the largest species of owl and, in North America, is on average the heaviest owl species. The adult male is virtually pure white, but females and young birds have some dark scalloping; the young are heavily barred, and dark spotting may even predominate. Its thick plumage, heavily feathered taloned feet, and colouration render the Snowy Owl well-adapted for life north of the Arctic Circle.

Doves

Another fun puzzle is here. Today we feature a pair of doves building a nest in a flower filled tree. In general, the terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used somewhat interchangeably. In ornithological practice, "dove" tends to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones. Doves are stout-bodied birds with short necks, and have short, slender bills with fleshy ceres. Doves feed on seeds, fruits, and plants. Pigeons and doves are distributed everywhere on Earth. The largest number of species is found in tropical forests and woodlands. These species may be arboreal, terrestrial or semiterrestrial. Various species also inhabit savannas, grasslands, deserts, temperate woodlands and forests, mangrove forests, and even the barren sands and gravels of atolls. This puzzle is based on a illustration by John James Audubon from his color-plate book entitled "The Birds of America".
